REI Nation was founded in 2003 under the name Memphis Invest. Owners Kent Clothier Sr. and his wife, Sherry began building their real estate portfolio by driving through neighborhoods across Memphis searching for buy and hold properties they could turn into turnkey investments. The great success they had in building a strong portfolio brought in multiple investors looking to the Clothiers to help build passive income portfolios for themselves. From there, Memphis Invest was born.

As Memphis Invest grew exponentially, so did the company’s reputation of delivering outstanding service! The family-owned business has dedicated itself to give passive real estate investors a trusted and consistent investment experience with a special emphasis on high touch customer service and excellent property management. With the expansion into different markets, the brand ‘Memphis Invest’ has always stood for quality and service which has helped us to acquire and manage thousands of properties in cities outside of Memphis for our clients.

In 2020, the Clothiers launched the rebrand to REI Nation. With investors across the country and markets in multiple states, REI Nation reflects the immense reach and growth the company has built over the years. Though the company has a new name, our investors can expect the same great experience that originally solidified their confidence in our team. With team members in every city trained to our specific standards and every property expected to perform to our high expectations, REI Nation will always be a Memphis Invest company and those same standards will continue.

2019

2018

5,000 Properties & St. Louis Market Opens

Memphis Invest grows into its 7th market and makes plans for eclipsing $1 Billion in assets under management.  This is the first year the company completes 800 properties in one year.

2017

Little Rock, Oklahoma City & Tulsa Markets Open

Memphis Invest moves into its’ 4th , 5th and 6th markets. The company grows to 100+ team members and acquires and renovates a brand new building for Premier Property Management Company.

2015

Houston Market Opens

The company opens its’ third market in Houston, TX, and purchases a classic, early 1900’s building in Grapevine, TX, for their Texas operations headquarters.

2012

Dallas Market Opens

The company completes 500 deals in one year for the first time and grows to 50 full-time team members.  Memphis Invest publishes their first Culture Book.

2009

Premier Property Management Founded

Premier Property Management Company is founded in Memphis, TN.  Premier is set to only provide management services to Memphis Invest clients.

2008

Office Move & A New Partner

Memphis Invest moves into what would become their four building campus on Timber Creek.  Chris joins as a partner heading sales and marketing and the team grows to 15.

2007

A Name Change, A Website & A New Partner

Memphis Invest is officially incorporated as Brett joins the company as a partner and the first plans are made to revolutionize the Turnkey real estate industry.

2004

First Office & Hire

Kent Clothier hires Carol Henderson as the first team member for his new company and purchases an office on Summer Avenue to officially launch his new real estate company.

2003

The Beginning

Kent and Sherry Clothier begin building a new company designed to help investors build passive portfolios.  Built on their own successful story as real estate investors, they name their new company CIG properties.

A Family-Owned Company

 

The Clothier family built REI Nation and Premier Property Management Group on the notion that investors need to surround themselves with quality proven individuals and companies. Active real estate investors themselves, the Clothier family knew the types of services and experience levels that investors wanted to see in order to feel comfortable and secure investing in real estate far from home.  

The Clothier family remains active in the day-to-day operations and can be found on a daily basis in either the Memphis, Dallas or Houston office.

FOUNDER & CEO

Kent Clothier, Sr. brings more than three decades of real estate and entrepreneurial experience to the business. He set the foundation for what would later become REI Nation in 2003 after years of successfully purchasing and managing residential real estate on a personal level. Before his career in real estate, Kent started out in the supermarket industry in the Dallas area, managing a billion-dollar operation by the young age of 32. Kent brought his expertise in the industry with him to Memphis and began American Wholesale Grocers in 1987. By 1995, he built the enterprise into a $50-million venture, which he sold in the late 1990s before pursuing his passion for real estate and establishing REI Nation.

Chris Clothier

PARTNER

Chris Clothier manages the development and implementation of sales and marketing processes for REI Nation. Chris serves as the external voice for the company, working with the team to help potential investors define their purpose for investing in real estate and educating peer companies on best practices in the emerging turnkey real estate industry. Chris is an experienced real estate speaker and addresses small and large audiences of real estate investors and business professionals nationwide several times each year. Chris is also a contributing columnist for BiggerPockets, the nation's leading real estate educational forum. He also oversees the weekly publication of the REI Nation Weekly Article Roundup.

Brett Clothier

PARTNER

Brett Clothier serves as a partner at REI Nation where he oversees financial reporting and activities as well as day-to-day operations. With his father, Kent, as a mentor, he began investing in residential real estate while pursuing his real estate degree from the University of Mississippi. Upon graduation, he joined the family-owned company and helped recruit several of the key players who today hold leadership positions throughout the company. Brett improved the tracking and metrics used by REI Nation to monitor the acquisition strategy and to lower costs for the company and clients. Brett is instrumental in the day-to-day operations and financial decision-making within the company.
